A collection of thoughts, observations, quotes, resources and random pretty things.

Sarcasm, cynicism, pessimism, snark – I’m addicted to them all. And honestly, even with my altered perspective they can still bring joy and humor. But I’ve also learned that life requires balance and it’s not good for you to dwell for long in the negative….even when it’s funny. For a bit over 12 years I’ve been collecting resources on mindset, quotes on positivity and research on the power of happiness. It started with a thought experiment. How can I say “thank you” for everything –even the seemingly bad, or difficult or even annoying things in my life. Yes, even failing a calculus test or hitting every red light on my way to work when I’m already late. It evolved when my oldest son was diagnosed with a significant genetic intellectual disorder. It solidified when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer shortly before my youngest son’s second birthday. Happiness is a choice. And by choosing to dwell in the negative I was sabotaging joy. For some it’s a harder choice than for others. I’m not saying you can Pollyanna all the hard things out of your life. And this is definitely not the place to make you feel guilty for a day, a week or even a decade of wallowing. It’s a place to share inspiration, tips and observations about the often difficult transition from a life of cynicism and pessimism to one of compassion (for others AND myself), progress over perfection, and a bit of space to be our own imperfect selves. Like my favorite animal, we are all beings of awkward grace. Welcome and I look forward to growing together!
